Class Descriptions:

Basic Wilderness Survival Skills -- We'll learn the basics of short-term survival, including lost-proofing, developing a survival attitude, the world's most reliable fire-building technique, matchless fires, how to build a cozy survival shelter, and how to attend to basic survival needs such as water and wild food.

Wilderness Living Skills: Intermediate Skills for Long-Term Earth-living -- Long-term wilderness living situations call for different skills than short-term survival. We'll learn how to set up an earth-living camp by building a shelter, creating a highly efficient fire pit, making fire by friction, learning edible plants, and practicing skills such as making cordage and primitive tools. We'll also explore the psychology of long-term wilderness living and practice stalking and wilderness awareness techniques.

Family Wild Living Skills: Firemaking -- Wilderness fun for the whole family! Geared toward kids who are accompanied by parents or guardians, this short afternoon class will teach the basics of building the perfect one-match fire, as well as starting a fire without any matches at all! Bring your marshmallows! This and the family shelter building class lead up to our Family Wilderness Adventure class in the fall.

Family Wild Living Skills: Shelter Building -- More family wilderness fun! In this short afternoon class for kids and their parents, we'll learn from the squirrels how to construct a cozy outdoor shelter. Discover how to build a wilderness home. This and the family firemaking class lead up to our Family Wilderness Adventure class in the fall!

Wild Zen -- Kenton Whitman's Zen-Inspired Self Development website has an international audience, and he lives right here in Wisconsin! Journey into the woods and discover how nature can guide us toward a new way of living, where every moment is vibrant, rich, and alive. Free of dogma, Kenton will help you find your own path toward seeing beyond Maya -- the illusion that causes us so much confusion in life. This is the first step toward Waking Up to Life.

Other Nature Adventures in 2010 -- Call or write to schedule your own private class!

Snakes Alive! -- Fun and educational for elementary school classes, library groups, homeschoolers, or community groups who would like to learn more about these slithery reptiles. We'll bring live snakes, introduce you to these fascinating animals, and share facts about the amazing lives they live.  We'll go at your pace and help you feel comfortable if you're unsure about snakes -- we've helped hundreds of people meet their first snake!

Wilderness Survival 101 -- In a few hours, you'll learn the basics of wilderness survival. We'll also have some fun with hands-on skills!

Family Wilderness Adventure Skills -- Each of these family-style classes focuses on a different skill, such as fire building, making shelters, lost-proofing, camp skills, or wild edibles.

The World's Best Insurance Policy -- These troubled times have a lot of people wondering what they'd do if civilization as we know it were to collapse. This class teaches you how to be prepared for the worst – and have the peace-of-mind that comes with knowing you're not dependent on society in order to live a rich and fulfilling life.

Owl Pellets! -- Owl pellets are one of nature's treasure-boxes. We’ll learn about owls, learn how to 'speak owl', and dissect real owl pellets in order to discover the skulls, bones and fur hidden inside.

Meet Mother Nature -- Are you a stranger to nature? We'll go on a hike, learn some of the most fascinating facts about nature, taste some wild edibles, and roast marshmallows around a campfire while we talk about ways to re-discover your connection with the wild.

Horse Play -- Designed for people who have never met a horse or feel uncomfortable about horses, you'll get a chance to go for a walk with a horse, feed treats, and even ride!  We'll  go at your pace, taking all the time you need to feel comfortable.

Where the Wild Things Are -- We'll explore nature's wild creatures during a hike through wild places. We'll meet all sorts of creepy-crawlies, and get to know about the lives that they live inside logs, under water, and in the dirt.

Minimalist Backpacking -- How to comfortably go backpacking with a fraction of the equipment people usually carry.  No more aching backs!

Living Wild: Ancient Skills -- From shelter building to making fires without matches, we'll explore the skills that will lead up to the adventure of a lifetime -- our Wilderness Immersion class.

Living Wild: Wilderness Immersion -- That's right. No matches, no tent, not even a knife. Just you, your clothes, and the Chequamegon National Forest.
